Dan McCarty is in his eighth season as St. Norbert College's head football coach in 2023.
The Green Knights are 52-20 in McCarty's tenure. St. Norbert fashioned a 7-3 overall record in 2022, with the Green Knights finishing in second place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 6-2 mark.
St. Norbert finished 6-3 in 2019, which included the Midwest Conference's first win over a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe in 84 years thanks to a 27-21 win over UW-Eau Claire.
St. Norbert had a banner 2018 season, capturing its 17th Midwest Conference title in 34 years after topping Monmouth College in a hard-fought 10-7 win in the MWC Championship Game. The Green Knight followed that performance with an impressive 31-7 road win at previously unbeaten Trine University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
In his first season, McCarty led the Green Knights to a 10-1 record - St. Norbert's first 10-win season since 2007. The Green Knights won the Midwest Conference championship by defeating an eight-win Monmouth College team 16-7 in the MWC Championship Game. St. Norbert also scored wins over two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin teams - Carthage College and North Park University - in non-conference action.
McCarty piloted the Green Knights to a 7-3 mark in 2016 while finishing second in the Midwest Conference at 7-1. St. Norbert then lost a tough overtime decision in the Midwest Conference Championship Game in 2017.
McCarty, the 11th head coach in St. Norbert history, arrived in De Pere after spending one year as the head coach at Southern Door High School, located in his native Door County. McCarty's collegiate experience includes coaching at UW-Stout from 2007-2010, where he coached offensive line and defensive line, and was the defensive coordinator in 2010.
McCarty also coached at his prep alma mater, Sturgeon Bay High School, from 2003-2006 and again in 2011. In his first stint with the Clippers, McCarty aided Sturgeon Bay to the 2004 WIAA Division 4 state championship as the offensive coordinator.
McCarty also coached under current South Dakota coach Bob Nielson at UW-Eau Claire and the University of Minnesota-Duluth. McCarty coached tight ends in 1998, and went with Nielson to Duluth to coach wide receivers and tight ends from 1999 to 2001. He also was the head coach of the Eidsvoll 1814s in Norway in the summer of 2001.
